International ski and avalanche course 2008

Time is approaching when I am going to meet up for the first gathering in the course "International Ski and Avalanche Course" in Alta. This 6 months course is given by Øytun Folkehøgskole (www.skiogskred.no). The course aims for improving our ability of reading the terrain, assessing risk of avalanche under different conditions and different climate regimes. In order to achieve this, we're going to be spend a lot of time on skis. After the gathering in Alta, northern Norway we will go to Switzerland in January and take a course in Swiss Avalanche Risk Assessment. Then in February we're going to attend ARAC ("Advanced Recreational Avalanche
Course"), http://yamnuska.com/avalanchesafety.shtml .

I am planning to stay there until mid March approximately. Then after that we'll meet up in Alta again and talk about our experiences before we go on more trips. We're going for a 10 day trip in Sarek National Park in Northern Sweden for instance and to Lyngsalpene in Troms.

The rest remains to see. I am excited about how this will turn out.

The plan is to upload pictures here when the course starts up in Davos in January next year.
